Anatoly Biryukov, a world-renowned authority on sports massage, the first and current honorary president of the WSM World Sports Massage Federation, passed away on November 12, 2020 at the age of 90.

Dr. Tae-Young Kim, the current president of WSM, mourned the honorary chairman of AA Viruco, who made great achievements in the field of sports massage that contributed to the development of world sports.

Anatoly Andreevich was born on June 12, 1930 in the city of Michurinsk, Tambov Region, into a large family (he had six brothers and sisters). During the war, he worked in an atelier: he sewed tunics and overcoats for soldiers of the Red Army, and in 1944 he was sent to restore Moscow, where he temporarily retrained as electricians. After the war, he became interested in Greco-Roman wrestling: he restored his shaky health, became a master of sports in this sport, winning the Moscow championship and becoming the fourth in the All-Union competitions.

Soon, Anatoly Biryukov met Doctor of Medical Sciences, Honored Scientist of the RSFSR, Professor Ivan Sarkizov-Serazini, at whose insistence he entered the school for working youth, and after serving in the sports field he graduated from the School of Coaches at the State Center for Physical Culture and Sports. Later, Anatoly Andreevich contributed to the fact that the department was named after his teacher.

As a talented massage therapist Anatoly Biryukov, already in the 50s, was invited to work with the USSR national teams. He has repeatedly traveled to the world championships, the Olympic Games as part of the national team, having visited a total of one hundred major sports competitions in half a century. At the same time, Biryukov was known not only in sports circles - Anatoly Andreevich had a chance to massage the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, and the famous artists Mikhail Zharov, Nina Ruslanova, was familiar with Korney Chukovsky and Samuil Marshak.

In 2011, Professor Biryukov was awarded a rare award - the Pierre de Coubertin medal for the greatest merits in the development of the Olympic movement, and this year he received the Order of Friendship from the President of Russia. Anatoly Andreevich is the author of more than 400 scientific, scientific and methodological works, including 55 books. Professor Biryukov's works were published in Spain, Korea, Bulgaria, Mexico, Poland, Cuba, Japan and many other countries of the world.
Until his last days, Anatoly Andreevich worked at his native university, he enjoyed respect and was an indisputable authority for many generations of students and graduates of the RSUFKSMiT. Professor Biryukov is a person who, without exaggeration, can be called an entire era.

The staff of the RSUFKSMiT mourns this loss and expresses sincere condolences to the family and friends of Anatoly Andreyevich.

The funeral service took place on November 14 at the All Saints Church in All Saints on Sokol, and the burial took place at the Mitinskoye cemetery.
